Springfield: a Town for the Arts

On the first Friday of each month, there's the First Friday Artwalk in Downtown Springfield. There’s everything you could want like original art, live music, hands-on activities and even live art demonstrations. Over 20 galleries usually participate and, if you're feeling a bit famished; you'll find fine dining to casual eateries open for business. If you want to view strictly local and regional artists, the Fresh Art Gallery on Walnut Street is not to be missed. If you're looking for something with more theatrical flair, there's the Springfield Little Theater or the historic Gillioz Theatre, constructed in 1926. For performing arts, with Broadway series or national touring performances, the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts is the place to be. You'll also find the Springfield Art Museum, Springfield Ballet and Springfield Regional Opera are worth checking out.
